Gingerbread Loaf

2/3 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup mild-flavored molasses
3 tablespoons margarine or butter — cut up
3 cups bread flour
1 tablespoon brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon active dry yeast or bread machine yeast
Lemon Icing:
1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 to 3 teaspoons milk

Select the loaf size. Add the ingredients, except the Lemon Icing, to the machine according to the manufacturer’s directions. Select the basic white bread cycle. If desired, drizzle the cooled loaf with Lemon Icing.

Lemon Icing: In a small mixing bowl stir together sifted powdered sugar, lemon juice and vanilla. Stir in enough milk to make an icing of drizzling consistency.

NOTES : For the 1-1/2 pound loaf, the bread machine pan must have a capacity of 10 cups or more.
