Anise Wheat Bread
1/2 cup regular or quick-cooking rolled oats
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup water
4 teaspoons margarine, butter or cooking oil
1 3/4 cups bread flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon anise seed
1 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast or bread machine yeast
Select the loaf size. Spread the oats in a shallow baking pan. Bake in a 350′ oven about 15 minutes or until light brown, stirring occasionally. Cool. Transfer to a blender container or food processor bowl; cover and blend or process until finely ground. Add the ingredients to the machine according to the manufacturer’s directions, adding the ground oats with the flours. If available, select the whole grain cycle, or select the basic white bread cycle.
