Batter Rolls

3/4 cup milk

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon salt

4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter

1/2 cup warm water

2 packages (1/4 ounce each) yeast

1 egg

3 1/2 cups flour (about, divided)

Scald milk; stir in sugar, salt and butter. Cool to lukewarm. Measure warm water into large bowl. Sprinkle yeast over water and stir until dissolved. Add lukewarm milk mixture, egg and 2 cups flour; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Transfer to an oiled bowl, cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk, about 30 minutes.

Punch down and shape into 2 dozen rolls. Place on greased baking sheet, cake pans or in muffin cups. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.

When ready to bake, preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake in preheated oven 10 to 12 minutes or until done.

Makes 2 dozen rolls.
