Garlic Herb Bread

Garlic Herb Bread

1 cup water
2 teaspoons olive oil or cooking oil
3 cups bread flour
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 teaspoons sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon active dry yeast or bread machine yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons bottled minced roasted garlic
2 tablespoons margarine or butter
2/3 cup snipped parsley
1/2 cup snipped fresh chives

Add first 7 ingredients to the machine according to manufacturer’s directions. Select the dough cycle. When cycle is complete, remove dough from machine. Punch down. Cover and let rest 10 minutes. Meanwhile, for filling, in a small saucepan cook the roasted garlic in hot margarine or butter for 30 seconds. Remove from heat. Stir in the parsley and chives.

For the 1-1/2 pound recipe: Divide the dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll each half into a 16-in. x 10-in. rectangle. Spread each rectangle with half of the filling almost to the edges. Starting from a long side, loosely roll up into a spiral. Moisten edge; pinch firmly to seal. Place, seams down, on a greased large baking sheet, tucking ends under. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 35 to 45 minutes or until nearly double. Bake in a 350′ oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until bread sounds hollow when lightly tapped. Remove; cool on a wire rack.
