Sourdough Bread
1 C. sourdough starter
1 1/2 C. warm water
1/2 C. vegetable oil
2 T. sugar
1 T. salt
6 C. flour
Mix first five ingredients, then add flour one cup at a time, to make a firm dough.
Place in a greased bowl, turn once, cover, and let rise eight to 12 hours.
Punch down. Divide into thirds. Place in greased loaf pans. Cover and let rise eight to 12 hours. Bake at 350°F. for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Sourdough Starter
3/4 C. sugar
3 T. potato flakes
1 C. warm water
1 package yeast
Mix all ingredients. Cover for one day. Stir and pour into quart jar with holes in lid so it can breath. Refrigerate for two to three days before using. To feed starter, pour into bowl and add the same amounts of sugar, potato flakes and warm water. Let sit eight to 12 hours. Take out one cup and put the rest back in a jar in the refrigerator. May feed every three to seven days.
