Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

These treats come to you puppy approved. My 2 girls love them and I don’t feel bad or have to wonder what is in them. This last scare over dog treats from China is making me resolve not to buy them treats anymore at the store. Their favorite ones came from China, so those are now trash. I went the other day to the store and was looking at the bags trying to identify where they are from and after looking at several bags and not being able to determine quickly (5 minutes) where they were made I bought nothing. Do you know there are no laws governing what can be in dog food? It is a 55 billion dollar industry and I am just shocked at what I am reading at Who would of thought that an industry that large has so very little controls over it?

Well I do have control over these and my dogs love them. I made them with fresh pumpkin but canned will work also, just make sure it is pure pumpkin. You can use any kind of cutter to cut these or even just a knife to cut the size best suited for your dogs. I use small bones usually as that is the best for my girls. I did bake them a few turkeys for them Thanksgiving, they aren’t spoiled a bit! I am going to keep them in the freezer until then to keep them fresh.

For the Dogs, Yummy Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Dog biscuits made of pumpkin, peanut butter and oatmeal.


  • 3 cups whole wheat flour

  • 3/4 cup pure pumpkin
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup corn meal
  • 1 cup whole oatmeal - not quick
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • white flour as needed to roll out


  1. Mix all of the ingredients together in your mixer bowl. It should be the consistency of a cookie dough that you are going to roll out. You might want to wait 5 minutes or so to let everything get absorbed before adding any more flour. I used just a little additional white flour when I rolled them out.
  2. Roll out to about 1/3 inch thick. Using a cutter or knife cut out shapes. Put on a greased cookie sheet, not touching but can be close.
  3. Bake at 375 for 20 - 25 minutes. Turn oven off and let dry in oven. You want them totally baked through.

    These sound great for my pups. I recently posted a dog treat recipe as well. It’s sad that someone could make a treat for dogs that could be harmful.

      I know, they say over 600 dogs have died and those are just the ones they know about. I would be devastated. I’ll have to look at your recipe for next time. They like variety just like we do.

    Mary is there a way to modify this recipe using rice flour?
    I agree 100% and I do not buy dog food or treats that come from China. Can’t wait to try these on my newly adopted fur child. 🙂 Joey

      I have no idea, is Joey allergic to flour? Believe it or not, I have never bought rice flour. Leave it to my friend to ask a question I don’t know the answer to…. LOL

      Oh I know, it is sad when we can’t trust what we buy. I can tell you though my girls love these better than anything I buy.

      My girls love them more than any other I have made them. They actually are doing things that means they want a treat just to get them way more than usual. If his stomach is sensitive I might leave out the cornmeal. My girls love corn so I put in a small amount for them.

      you might want to try these. my dogs have been cuckoo crazy over them. they are putting their noses up to the store ones right now.

    I found your recipe for these treats through Pinterest. I’ve been doing some research for my 3 year old Pug who has some “rear end” problems, so I am trying to add more fiber into his daily routine. These looked great for that! I whipped them up quickly and then cut them out into small circle (wafer) looking cookies, and they are a big hit with BOTH of my dogs!
    when I added the chicken broth to the mix it made the perfect consistency for the dough, I did not have to add anymore flour or liquid for that matter. I only wish recipes for “human” cookies, always came out so perfectly. Great job, I will definitely make these again.

      Thanks for inviting me Karen! I came over and left you several recipes with pumpkin. My girls love these biscuits. I have been keeping them in the fridge because I used real chicken broth and now every time I open the door they come running.

      Thanks Allison, I just took some new sweet potato ones out of the oven this afternoon that I will be posting this week also. I’m never buying treats again. they really like these and I know exactly what I am giving them.
