Benne Seed Wafers

1/2 C. sesame seeds

3/4 C. butter or margarine, softened

1 1/2 C. firmly packed light brown sugar

2 large eggs

1 t. vanilla extract

1 1/4 C. all-purpose flour

1/4 t. baking powder

Cook sesame seed in a heavy skillet over medium heat, stirring constantly, about 5 minutes or until golden. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Add brown sugar, eggs and vanilla, beating until blended.

Combine flour and baking powder; gradually add to butter mixture, beating until blended. Stir in sesame seed.

Drop wafer dough by level teaspoonfuls, 1 1/2 inches apart, onto parchment paper-lined baking sheets.

Bake at 325°F. for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool on baking sheets.

Makes about 9 dozen.
