Red Velvet Poke Cake
This red velvet cake is moist, light and fluffy. For an added wow factor I have turned it into a poke cake with a cream cheese filling and almond cream cheese frosting on top.

I love cream cheese, so I would devour this. I have never added crisco to cake, but if you say it helps it be moist, then that’s good enough for me! Definitely going to try this!
This looks fabulous, Mary Ellen!! So perfect for the holidays!
I love that this poke cake it made from scratch! Fantastic recipe and so pretty!
I love that you use half butter half Crisco. I am not a good enough baker to try many changes, so I am happy to hear about that. And I love the history you share. Thanks!
perfect dessert for a cup of coffee and I absolutely love almond flavor so the frosting is a definite win for me!
I need to make more poke cakes – this looks delicious, and really, you can’t beat cream cheese frosting – it’s simply the best!
I know, I do too need to make them more often. Loved the frosting on this cake with the almond flavoring.
Red velvet is so perfect for the holidays! This cake looks delicious and beautiful. 🙂
Thanks Carrie!
I love the history behind this cake. Totally thought it originated in the South!! I love that you took this traditional cake and made it into a poke cake!
I thought the same thing Renee until I did some research on it.

Thanks Marion!
