Pizza with a Meat Crust

Combine with a fork:

1 lb. ground beef

1/3 cup fresh bread crumbs

1/4 cup beef broth (bouillon is okay)

1 onion, finely chopped

1 garlic clove, minced

1 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. fennel seed

1/4 tsp. pepper

Press mixture into 9 inch pie or cake tin to form shell.  Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes.  Drain off all fat from cooking.  Spread 3/4 cup drained and chopped Italian plum canned tomatoes with 1/2 teaspoon crushed dry red pepper over beef crust.  Grate 1/2 pound Mozzarella cheese (more if you love cheese) over the tomato mixture.

Sprinkle the following on top of the Mozzarella:

3 Tblsp. freshly grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp. fresh basil

1 tsp. parsley

1 tsp. oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

Bake 15 minutes more.  Serves 4.  I prefer this gourmet version to the standard “crust” pizza and it is not as heavy on the calories.
