Chocolate Valentine’s Day Cupcakes with Fluffy Frosting Recipe

Have you tried our Grandma’s Chocolate Cake recipe yet? If not you are missing out on one the best from scratch recipes for a chocolate cake ever. It is light and moist and oh so good! You will get about 20 cupcakes from the recipe.

This frosting takes about 10 minutes to make. You will need to mix it with a hand mixer the entire time it is on the heat. If you have to walk away for some reason, take the pan off of the simmering water. (I’m not so sure that would be a good thing but better than leaving it on the heat)

I don’t know about you but I love making homemade treats for Valentine’s Day. Cupcakes, Candies and Cookies all sound good to me. It also shows you care enough to spend some time making something for them.

Chocolate Valentine’s Day Cupcakes with Fluffy Frosting

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: PT10-12M

Total Time: 20 minutes

Light, airy fluffy frosting with sprinkles top the best chocolate cupcakes. This is enough frosting to do about 20 cupcakes.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar and water together in the top pan of a double boiler or a bowl that can be set over a pot of simmering water on low heat. Stir until the sugar is mixed. Add the egg whites and cream of tartar. When it is all mixed together with a hand mixer put over the simmering water. Continue to beat with mixer until the mixture is soft and creamy, about 10 minutes. It should hold soft peaks when done. Add vanilla.
  2. Put the frosting immediately into a pastry bag and pipe out on the top of the cupcakes. Put sprinkles on before doing the next cupcake so they adhere better.
